Tour de communication (5) - Pretoria

Nous sommes déjà à notre avant dernière destination, Pretoria ! Nous nous sommes installées dans notre backpackers au cœur du quartier étudiant, dans cette ville située seulement à 45 minutes de Johannesburg. Premier arrêt : University of Pretoria, une des meilleures universités du pays. Nous avons tout d'abord cherché le bureau des étudiants internationaux où nous avons rencontré Jenny, qui s'occupe des visas pour les étudiants étrangers. Les deux autres responsables du département n'étaient malheureusement pas disponibles durant notre séjour, mais Jenny nous a été d'une aide précieuse. Apres lui avoir présenté notre projet et notre tour de communication, elle nous a transmis deux contacts : Joseph, responsable des événements culturels sur le campus et Smart, responsable des étudiants internationaux. Nous avons ainsi pu leur transmettre toutes les informations et supports nécessaires. Nous avons déjà eu un retour de Joseph, qui est intéressé par ce partenariat et fait suivre au comité de direction de l'UPI, l'entité culturelle du campus. Jenny a également eu la gentillesse de mettre un de nos posters dans le département des étudiants internationaux. Il n'y avait pas de bureau consacré au "community engagement" dans cette université, mais le département de droit est d'ores et déjà très engagé, et soutient de nombreux projets en Afrique du Sud, en particulier en aidant aux respects des droits de l'Homme. Nous leur avons donc rendu visite et laissé nos posters afin d'informer les étudiants intéressés par l'aide humanitaire. Nous nous sommes ensuite rendues à Unisa (University of South Africa). Il était bien plus compliqué de rencontrer les personnes adaptées dans cette université, car celle-ci propose uniquement des cours à distance. Les étudiants se rendent donc rarement sur le campus. Nous avons cependant pu rencontrer l'assistant du responsable du community engagement, a qui nous avons présenté Mawotsheni Community Project. Nous lui avons transmis tous les supports, et il nous a donné le contact de son responsable, absent durant notre venue. Notre dernière étape à Pretoria fut à Varsity College. Ecole privée, l'organisation de cet établissement était très différente des universités dans lesquelles nous nous étions rendues. Nous avons tout de même pu rencontrer une responsable du département en lien avec les projets humanitaires. Nous lui avons parlé brièvement du projet et transmis nos supports. Cependant, elle nous a expliqué que leurs partenariats ne s'effectuent qu'avec des ONG nationales, qui ont des projets présents sur l'ensemble du territoire Sud africain comme Footprint. Pour finir notre séjour à Pretoria, Benjamin, étudiant à University of Pretoria, a eu la gentillesse de nous accompagner dans 3 backpackers du quartier étudiant (Hatfield village, Hatfield Guesthouse et 1322 Backpackers international), dans lesquels nous avons posé des posters et laissé quelques flyers. Nous nous sommes également rendues dans 2 autres backpackers (Pretoria Backpackers et Friends Accomodation), qui ont également acceptés d'accrocher nos affiches dans les salles communes. Apres deux jours passés à Pretoria, nous nous rendons maintenant dans la dernière ville de notre tour de communication : Durban. -----------/----------- TRADUCTION PRETORIA BLOG It has already been two weeks we started our communication tour, and we now arrived to our 5th destination : Pretoria. We were staying in a backpacker in the middle of the students district, in that city situated only 45 minutes away from Johannesburg. First stop : University of Pretoria, one of the best in the country. First, we looked for the international student office where we met Jenny, who takes care of the visas for the exchange students. Unfortunately, the two other managers were not on the campus during our stay, but Jenny has been very helpful. We first introduce the project and our communication tour to her, and she gave us two contact details: Joseph, manager of the cultural events on campus, and Smart who is in charge of the exchange students. We send them all information and supports needed. We already had a feedback from Joseph, who is interested in the partnership and he will forward it to the UPI board of directors, the cultural entity of the campus. Jenny kindly put our poster in the international students department. There was no community engagement in that university, which is already very committed in humanitarian actions, particularly by helping communities in Humans Rights respect. We then visited this department and let our posters so they can inform the students interested about our community project. Then, we went to Unisa (University of South Africa). It was way more complicated to meet the good interlocutors there, because it only offers online classes. Therefore, students almost never come on the campus. However, we've been able to meet the community engagement manager's assistant, who we presented Mawotsheni Community Project to. We gave him all the documents, and he gave us his manager's contact details, who was not there during our venue. Our last step in Pretoria was Varsity College. As a private school, the organization of this structure is very different compare to the universities we've seen during our communication tour. We met one of the manager of the partnerships and humanitarian projects department. We talked briefly with her about the project and gave her our supports. However, she explained that they mainly build partnerships with national NGOs, which have projects all around South Africa, as Footprint. For our last hours in Pretoria, Benjamin, student at UP, kindly took us in 3 backpackers situated in the students district (Hatfield village, Hatfield Guesthouse, 1322 Backpackers), where we put some posters and flyers. We also went in two other backpackers (Pretoria Backpackers and Friends accommodation) who also accepted to stick our posters in their common rooms. After two days spent in Pretoria, we are now going in the last city of our communication tour : Durban.
